Several urban legends surround Disney's animated feature films and television shows. Perhaps you've heard some of them on the playground when you were a kid. Back then, any juicy rumor was spread like wildfire, true or not. And the Disney stuff was as good as it got. Tales of images of sex and foul language secretly hidden in wholesome Disney filmspoisoning the minds of our youthstill persist to this day.
A longtime rumor that continues to plague Aladdin is that at one point in the movie, when the lead character is off-screen, he whispers, "Good teenagers take off their clothes," or a slight variation of this.
So, is Aladdin a pig trying to encourage kids everywhere to get into their birthday suits? Or is this another false legend spread through the grapevine?
The scene in question is when Aladdin, as Prince Ali, flies up to Jasmine's balcony on his magic carpet to convince her that he isn't self-absorbed. When Aladdin steps onto the balcony, Jasmine's tiger, Rajah, begins threatening him. As Aladdin backs away and tries to shoo the tiger, he's allegedly heard saying, "Good teenagers take off their clothes."
So, does it really happen? If you watch the closed-captioning during thise portion of the movie, it says, "Good kitty, take off." But closed-captioning always skimps on the actual dialogue, you can't really take that into consideration. Disney itself has claimed the script calls for Aladdin to say, "Good kitty. Take off and go." But listen closely. That's definitely not all that's said.
It seems Aladdin is whispering, "Come on, good kitty," but just as he finishes these words, a second voice is heard muttering something. It sounds like, "Psst, take off your clo-," but it gets cut off. No one else is in this particular scene, so who this second (male) voice belongs to remains unknown.
Can this be the product of poor editing? Might this mystery voice really not be saying what people claim he is? Once you're told what you should be hearing, it's hard to hear anything else. You know how the power of suggestion is, right?
The rumor that Aladdin is telling teenagers to ditch their garb appears false, but their is definitely a voice heard in this portion of the film. Go ahead, pop in the old tape and hear it for yourself. What do you think is being said?
