Hi I am signing up for classes, how many Crit. Studies classes do you recommend taking your 1st semester? or per semester?

I'm still figuring out what to do and how to do this :/

Sorry Ambar I don't know. I can only add either Twentieth-Century Modernism or Research Studio at the moment. Is that it for critical studies? Plus I can only add one of them otherwise it says that "you have tried to enroll for too many units". Seems like 'Writing Arts: 20th C. Art & Society' is already built into my schedule (mandatory) and counts as a critical studies. Someone please explain to me, hehe, I'm from Norway and not used to this system ><

*feels like she is a broken record* ALL OF THIS INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON THE CALARTS WEBSITE!

All freshman are required to take a Writing Arts and Foundation class their first year. Depending on your last name in the alphabet will determine which one you take first semester and you will automatically be enrolled in the second for Spring unless you have transfer credits.

Depending on how soon you would like to finish your critical studies, that's how you should choose how many to take. Keep in mind that you still have to take ALL of your PRELOADED Character Animation classes! When you get to school, meet with Patty Lopez in the Registrar's office and she can help explain it to you.

I would not recommend adding more that the required critical studies classes, maybe ONE more. When it comes to Animation classes, you are going to be pretty packed! I added two extra classes- Acting for Animators (excellent) and History of Character Animation (VERY EXCELLENT!) History counted as an Other Metier critical studies class. This is something that will come up a LOT when you get here. Make sure you meet with Patty at least once so she can explain it in a clear way.

(By the by, Thomas- my roommate, Vincent who says he knows you from CSSSA says hi!) XD

Could you take online classes at a community college to be used as transfer credits towards your critical studies courses?

Yes! Before going to CalArts I recommend you take ENGLISH AND MATH. Also language classes transfer, Cultural Study classes transfer, Psychology sutff like that but I would email Crit. Studies to make sure but Yes, take English and Math DEFINITELY.

Also, art classes can transfer as studio classes. But, there is a limit to how many hours can transfer, I took 1 1/2 yrs of Comm College and I still have way more space so I'm going to be going to summer school at my community college.

Call the Registrar's office and check the requirements. So many students go and take a bunch of classes at community college then get pissed off when they get here and some of them didn't transfer like they thought they would. Be safe, not sorry.
But yes, take math, sciences, history, a computer class if you haven't already, ENGLISH!!! LOTS of English!
