  Hey guys, so I'm applying for Calarts' Character Animation Program and also Ringling's Computer Animation program. I'm in some really bad need for suggestions and review, so it'd be really great if I could get some reviews :)

  I noticed that you have a problem drawing hands. I also noticed that the contours of your drawings are very dark, try to give a sense of that "implied line". You don't have to enclose the whole form in a contour.

   

  I'm a big fan of drawing #14 though :) nice work~

  I read Ringling looks for more of a Fine Arts portfolio than a typical Calarts(figure drawing) one? It's so difficult to prepare both schools at the same time...

  I don't think so.. I went for Ringling's summer program, and for CA they stressed on having the greater part of the portfolio filled with Life drawing. the main difference is, Calarts doesn't want you to stick to a medium you're comfortable with and wants you to experiment, they wouldn't be happy with 15 charcoal life drawings. Ringling, however, judges you on what you're comfortable with. :)

  thank you for your critique! :) I do need to put in quite a bit of work when it comes to hands and legs. I have an almost ocd for making sure that i outline every part of the body :P

  I believe i read somewhere in the Calarts webpage that they really prefer you to use a medium you're comfortable with rather than trying different mediums. They recently changed the requirements page, on June (around then). it used to be couple years back, they emphasized the importance of experimentations of different mediums but it's not so much anymore. it's more safe to have a strong portfolio with consistent medium. :) good luck!
