I have veryyy few gesture sheets as the fig classes here prefer longer poses. I struggle with my teachers because they get frustrated with me for not being 'realistic' or true to the model and I feel like I'm not being adventurous, informed and simple-minded enough like other accepted calarts portfolios.   I've been trying to prove that I can do quick cartoons, gestures of people in my sketchbook, but I'm worried that I'm crippling myself with this approach I've taken to my figure drawings. What do you guys think? Nobody's figure drawings are going to be the same, but I don't want it to be too different in the ways that could cause them to reject me.Any and all criticism is VERY welcome!!! (I'm not the best at animals) And if I draw from life, I tend to simplify and cartoon a little, but I'm scared doing that is leaving me in a corner. From what I see, a lot of applicants shine in creative use of medium, color, design etc, but I just love drawing and I value structure, form and personality the most. I don't have a lot of of color design, but I like value and line.   Am I in too much of a safe-zone with what I'm trying to put together for my portfolio? Any and all criticism is VERY welcome!!! You can even point out specific drawings is some are good/bad. What are your thoughts on the time I've spent on these? (They're obviously not 20 minute super expressive figure drawings) Does it say that I can't do a good drawing in a short amount of time?

    Thanks!!

Oh yeah, should I do other mediums besides colored pencil on toned paper? (I love doing it so much!)

Again, if you have any critique or ideas, I would totally appreciate it! I'm just not sure if drawing cartoons well is good enough and if I'm doing enough realistic stuff, enough natural gestures. When I do draw from a model, I'm wondering if I take it too far or not far enough?

    Thanks!!
