Congratulations everyone who was accepted - you have an exciting year ahead of you! I'm pretty shocked by this. Your work is my favourite.    Really, everyone here is very talented. However, to give my honest opinion, I like the work of those rejected moreso than those accepted.    I'm just kind of confused because I really have no clue what they're looking for if everything I like is rejected. It's really hard to know what they're looking for. I think that's what made me slip up too, because I was hyper-focused on what Calarts "wanted to see" as opposed to what I felt best represented me as an artist. lolhugemistake. I'm just going to take inspiration from those accepted, receive the feedback on my portfolio, then continue trying to make a stellar portfolio for next year.   less

Alrighty, First of, the landscapes are really nice, are they all digital? Fresh... Okay your characters! Characters are a big part of my art, I'm very bias towards character oriented portfolios, I like yours, I do, they're adorable! I do think, however, you should play around a little more with them, especially your people like the ginger in the blue shirt? I know nothing about her! The fun part about characters is exaggerating certain parts or emphasizing details to show their importance. For example, If he backstory were that she comes from a very posh family with thin, dark, brown hair, she should have HUGE FIREY red hair, because that's whats setting her apart, yeah?  less

Hannah Farrell Also, figure work is important because, once you are comfortable with the human figure, you can play with it more in your characters (see above... yeah.) And the last thing I want to say is that the last three pieces are cool, but something about them, to me, and I'm sorry if I seem mean or anything, they seem a little forced, I don't see the passion I see in your landscapes, color them like you color the water, brushy and moving!  less
