Hey! Hope you guys don't mind me barging into the discussion.
I've heard that many students are extremely happy at LCAD studying animation. It's about 15 miles from an art store (Art Supply Warehouse), and it's located in a very very nice area. The faculty seems very impressive, especially because of Dave Pruiksma, a former animator at Disney known for his work with "Beauty and the Beast", and many more films. From the look of it, it seems LCAD will be giving you a lot better instructions than the average animation program.
Though, I do wonder if it is really the school that makes a student succeed. CalArts may give you a higher chance of becoming a much better animator/artist since their program seems to be alot more intensive, but I believe LCAD can also help you succeed as an animator.
And as for housing (if the other is full), I believe the counselors help students pair up to rent rooms at Club Laguna, a very nice apartment not far from the campus. The rent for 2 BR + 2 BA is around $1400+ per month, but if you have 2 peoples sharing each room, it'll be around $500 for each person per month.
