Hey guys, i have been looking around for awhile now to find someone ask the question, so I dont have to bore people with my pesonal issue, but didnt find it, so please please help me..
MY STORY in short:
I graduated highshool 3 years ago and made a wrong choice by going into Business. I spent a year there and HAD to switch to Art as soon as possible as my dad wouldn't have paid for another degree. So without proper research I applied to (what was supposed to be the best uni in the country for art) CSM and got in for foundation.
Now I am in my first year in Graphic Design, in what I learnt is the worst uni in the country (just in my opinion, not trying to offend anyone)
I wanted to do Animation Production (character design, layout, bg design) for ages, and I realised that my life is still going in the completely wrong direction. My dream would be to work in art department in one of the top companies (pixar, bluesky, laika, etc)
SO THE QUESTION IS: Can I still make it in the industry, with little connections and by just learning from the books and online resourses?
I would do anything to go to Calarts just to make my dream come true, but sometimes even that is not enough..
Its is way too expencive and being international with no support or guarantour, i cannot afford it. Scholarship is too small to even consider... (saves only 40,000 out of 200,000, which is a lot, but the cost is still a 6 digit figure) and sadly from where i come from we have no scholarship...
WHY does Calarts (and other top crazy expencive unis in US) sound like the only way into the industry? Is it really?
I would really appreciate your help guys, i really dont know what to do. I have been working so hard every day, and i am just really stuck. Like should i bother trying to get in Pixar or Disney from a shitty uni with no connections?
Thank you so much.
