Kind of the goals and hopes is that by the end of the class you will have a good starter story portfolio using the work you've done from the assignments given. I am looking forward to it. I've checked out some of the other classes they offer and they are great, very organized. I highly recommend. And Nate Wragg (calarts grad) is teaching a character design class as well.

Don't need any more. Do some more of those pages with multiple sketches on them. The quick ones will help you improve quicker. The long ones are definitely good to do from time to time, but animation is all about disposable sketches, so quick ones apply more (in my opinion). You seem to have a lot more control with the longer poses, the looser sketches will come together over time and mileage, be patient. Do more pages! Fill them up! I think a few more of those will look great for the portfolio. p.s. My favorite is the third one, with the gal with her hand on her head. Very cool. Now do a whole page with sketches like that! Awesome.  less

I think in general, keeping a sketchbook is always helpful. A big healthy dose of drawing from life and the equally important dose of doodling. I think doodling is underrated in the process of artistic improvement. Try it. Drawing should be fun. Drawing from life is just so that you can find new things to have fun with in your doodling ;)

We did a bunch of animation assignments and got critiques. I feel like a large part of the reason I got the internship was because I went down to the studio and introduced myself and brought my portfolio. I do wish I had asked more questions and dedicated more time. I also got married that summer and had to work part-time at In-n-Out burger.I did a story internship at Pixar the following year (2006). It was an intensive story bootcamp. We did a lot of story assignments and activities, like gesture drawing and improv.   I would definitely advise that you take advice (from whomever works at the studio you are applying to) when they give it, regarding yor portfolio especially. I've noticed a lot of people ask for advice, but don't apply it when submitting the portfolio. Whether the advice has to do with the format of your portfolio or the actually drawings used. They take notice of these things. Why would someone want to work...    less

There are so many amazing blogs out there. I agree with Bobby, sometimes you just need inspiration. For me, I copied others peoples artwork (not traced, just eyeballed) for years. Every now and then I do it, and you will notice things that you can include and apply to your own work. So yeah, try studying more.
