I was hoping maybe someone could critique some of my stuff? I'll cross-critique as well! I was just hoping for some thoughts on my work.

I would avoid the drawings like the first couple because it shows basic lines which CalArts is looking for someone who is above the average and able to show not just basic structure, but the whole  structure of the anatomy. Your faces in your figure drawings are also too toony and personally, I believe it hurts the figure drawing. I would pay close attention to more linear work and indications of the face! You're on the right track!  less

I do really like that your figures are very sincere, but ive noticed that you have a very chaotic messy style which is interesting, but it seems to be distracting at some times. i love that you settle into a clear dark heavy line in the end that is varies with thickness, because it seems to accentuate the characters and give them that kind of life. also, i'd work with confidence in your lines as well, because like i was saying your style is messy (which again isnt bad!!) but it seems like youre shaky and at times it takes away from the characters?? i loooove that youre adding more color in your work because it suits your characters more!! also, id like to see more animals, maybe? and landscapes! also, i think some practice with hands and feet would be good since it seems youre a bit lacking in that...but wow! still! i'm jealous that you got to this stage at the age youre at...  less

I saw some scenes and I'd really like to see more of those, because you have a style and flow that i see in your work, though I am kinda sad that the figures are so small :c Ive always been taught to 'fill' the page and get every bit of your papers worth you possibly can and i guess itd be nice to have more profiles, too? youve got body well, but not much for faces and i wish i could see more animals too! ps: those martial arts figures are really cool haha!! oh, speaking of martial arts, try perspective shots with some of those!! like dynamic poses, etc  less

Back to your art, It's pop-y, The group images, especially work for my, very And Warhol-esk. I would stray away from figure standing plainly in the middle of a page, what are they doing? Where are they? There's more to learn about the image of a person when they have movement, and setting, that's an animators mind, yeah? But before you can tell a story with an animation, tell it with the character. We are all composed of billions of story that people make up after seeing us for a second. What I like to do is go to a public place, a mall maybe, and study a person. Be Creepy, it's art! Look at them for five minute. What have they done? What are they looking at? I saw what could have been some, however it was small, so I couldn't quite tell. If you are struggling with this, let me stress it's importance, Pretty much every art school you apply to will want to see not just skill, but CONFIDENCE in your life drawing. I've really struggled with this and to help have signed up for a figure drawing class at a local art college, I advise it even if you have been successful with it. Lastly, and I know this is really long, sorry, it's your part 3. Lovely! I love what your doing with your style, you'reworking everything you own to fit yourstylewhich is what you should be doing on your real works. I especially liked the second one, the long one with all the faces? Very cool. My only two suggestions are, 1. More More More More This collection really hints at your consistency, but expand. It's not that it's a bad photo, but it doesn't suit the rest of your pieces. Okay, that was a lot to type~! I hope this helped, once again, I see a lot of great stuff, and can't wait to see what you do next!

Though I can tell that you should work more on your observational work, since these feel that these were drawn from photo which doesnt help when it comes to better understanding form and capture movement and also try and shoot for accuracy as itll help you better understand your subject matter and how to manipulate it. Also practicing on your line quality and line confidence can bring a world of difference even if at first you think its obscure. Hope somethen in this was helpful and your headen in the right direction :) cross-critique?  less

  • Zeniff Beazer This is to everyone- I figured I might as well post this so everyone can see it. What kind of summer program opportunities are there that are beneficial for Animation? Could someone give me a list of colleges/their program and maybe even a link? After consulting my wife about it, she's alright with me going off to participate in a summer program. I'm mostly doing it for personal interest and to build up my resume/things I can put down on my college applications.
